Rock and Roll is King

It seems that recently there have been rather a few occasions to talk about Metal X K-pop cross overs, and I don't mean to be repetitive, but I just can't let this one slide. I present to you, Norazo's Lee Hyuk!

He's amazing, all 18 note levels of him!! Just look at him go.

Even if you are not a metal fan, you are surely going to find it hard to not be impressed.
Also, needless for me to add, amidst some terror facial hair and extensive sick tribal ink, there is most definitely a total babe there. Just look at this performance from 'Immortal Song 2', which should come with a warning:

---- Beware - Razor sharp cheekbones - Do not get too close for risk of injury ----

I think he may have a little wound just above his lip too

Plus he's a total leather studded babe!

He's so versatile, not even out of breath after all that. He goes some type of trot ballad to rocking all out. Even Wheesung and K.Will are delighted, and we all know how they can really belt it out too. Not to mention Kim Tae Won. Maybe we should let Lee Hyuk teach the Yanghwajin band how it's done, I know he'd be a great hyung to them. And they could compare cheekbones too. In addition to this, if he could help Jinswoon in preparing for his rock album too, that'd be great. Check his progress here.

♥_

Also, I am pretty sure I have supplied a link to this before, but if you haven't seen it, I implore you to watch Norazo's Rock Star. And if you happen to desire a brief introduction to Norazo, here is a medley, and, of course, it showcases some excellent screams. Enjoy!

I tried to comment on this from work the other day and it all went wrong and deleted everything i wrote, second time lucky...

wait, his name is lee hyuk soo too?? like my beautiful skeletor? so they apparently only bestow this name upon those whose cheekbones could inflict and injury http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo5/xMortonx/tumblr_kub3agPfOJ1qawtw9o1_400.png

i was so happy to see this post about him, sick tribal and the rest aside, i cannot get over his voice, or rockstar in particular, i want him doing a judas priest cover, and yes I want him mentoring the yanghwajin band (great suggestion!).

is that too much to want??

maybe he can get full sleeves of skulls and stuff and just cover over the sick tribal, just like randy orton did...

im glad they got him on immortal song, i feel like they get largely underrated for their choice to stick with novelty music.

you go lee hyuk soo, show them how its done!!

Clearly I am still procrastinating and wishing I was talking to you, so I will do the classic thing of replying to comments and pretending it is a real conversation.

Sorry your comment got deleted before. That is literally one of *the* most irritating things ever. It sends me wild, in the worst way. Thank you for writing a second reply <3

His name is indeed Lee Hyuk Soo, I think GD's bossom buddy is Lee Soo Hyuk? Although he does pop up whichever way you search it (which though confusing makes me very happy), though it's written Lee Soo Hyuk on more websites than the other way?! I don't know. It's SHU-I names all over again!

So glad you were happy to see more of Lee Hyuk Soo(?). I can't get enough of him, but I was worried he may be a one trick pony. Clearly not.
Judas Priest cover, yes please. Certainly not too much to want.

So happy that you managed a Randy reference! Maybe him and CM Punk can get re-tattooed together?

Does Lee Hyuk a pure korean? His face looks like an american tho O.O
I tried to find some info bout him, but sadly there's nothing much bout him on the net :'(

Hey jesika!

Thanks for reading my post, and for liking Lee Hyuk too!
I tried to do some research but I cannot find out anything about his background either. I guess he is Korean born, but I can't be sure, and I don't know about his parents. But I agree with you, it is hard to tell from his face alone (and he is always wearing make-up too <3 )

If I come across anything in the future, I'll try to let you know!

Thanks for asking though ^_^

No, his stage name is just Lee Hyuk (not sure where the "Soo" came from). His real name is Lee Jae Yong, and you can also find out information on him if you search "Norazo" which is his duo group with Jo Bin. Yes, sadly there isn't much stuff in English about him or them; it's a pity you guys don't know Korean. You can find most of their video clips on Youtube though.

According to interviews, Lee Hyuk isn't mixed; he's completely Korean. For me, personally, the ink and facial work for him. I'm not a big fan of that normally on Korean men, but it all just seems to work for him :).

Koreafem,

It's amazing that you commented on this now, as just last night I was singing Lee Hyuk's praises and introducing the new Norazo song to a friend!!

Sorry about the Soo - it was an autocorrect mistake! (We originally got confused about the model Lee Soo Hyuk and he also got tagged as Lee Hyuk Soo (whoops), and then Lee Hyuk also inherited that tag!!! All corrected now.)
I wish we were both fluent in Korean, life would be so much happier and easier. One day...!

Thanks for telling us about his background too, i.e. he's not mixed. He really is such a babe, it hardly suprises me that he's 100% Korean in that respect!
In the Norazo live performance I watched this week his facial hair is back, kind of, and to be honest, I swooned at him anyway, so maybe I am finally diversifying my tastes! ^_^

Haha that's good. Honestly, after I found Lee Hyuk, I asked myself what I ever saw in those young boy groups (sorry, Taeyang, you're still #2 in my heart) :). Yeah, he's pretty awesome and completely underrated here in Korea. He's appeared on IMMORTAL SONG twice already and will make yet another appearance this week. This time, he said he's going all out heavy metal style.

It's funny that you mention you like him despite the facial hair. I find him to be the exception of most things I don't like about Korean men (facial hair, tattoos,
Western look, etc.). With the exception of him being ridiculously pale, I actually think he's one of the best looking Koreans I've ever seen.

I really recommend checking out his solo work, as well as his stuff with Norazo. I know they're known for their crazy songs, but they're also able to write/sing ballads and other styles as well. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkXY_G-ULMs

His style changes consistently and almost drastically, but I guess that's what I like so much about him. Both he and his fellow duo member just don't give a shit :).

I've been replaying the title track of their latest album constantly. This is one of my favorite live performances of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwiX_uNIDJk

The quality isn't so good, but Lee Hyuk's little gift to the cameraman at around 2:46 is classic :).

Anyway, talent like this in Korea often goes unnoticed, so I'm glad to see it appreciated!

I know what you mean, I really do. He is kind of amazing, so different from everything else on the music shows. I really hope that he performs in a New Year special again this year. I was trying to remember which show Norazo performed at last year and I found this video instead... An LED light performance... WOW! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHbquTlz584
And look a Lee Hyuk's lovely red coat and fur collar <3 He's perfect.

I've seen one of his Immortal Song performances, and will definitely look out for the new one. In all honesty, my favourite style is heavy metal, but it is amazing to see that he has such a range. A wonderful man indeed.

I 100% agree that he is one of the best looking Koreans I have ever seen too! And the fact that he just doesn't care - and will literally wear anything - makes him so much better.

Thanks for the Sales King live link. I had seen one live performance of this song, but not this one. AMAZING! The vocals are sooo good, and the present to the cameraman - such a badass. I love the defiant look he gives to the camera a few seconds before that too.

I will certainly continue listening and keep telling everyone about Lee Hyuk and Norazo.

☆Happy holidays☆

Cool to know. Actually, I think Norazo is performing at an end of the year MBC Super Kpop thing or whatever. It will be broadcast late on NYE, but I'll likely miss it. On the same evening (but earlier), they will also broadcast Lee Hyuk's appearance in IMMORTAL SONG, which they are recording today. I applied to be one of the 500 "judges," but didn't manage to get in. Oh well.

Anyway, if you're interested, here's the link to Lee Hyuk's second appearance on that show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gB5e2aZwXUQ

There are many links available for that performance, but I'm choosing this one so you can contrast his first performance, see a bit of his interview, and also how different he looks. Honestly, in his first appearance on the show, I fell in love with his voice. With this appearance, I fell in love with HIM haha. He quite enjoys the physical similarities people make of him and Jesus (altho he himself isn't Christian) :).

So you and your friend used to live in Korea but now you live in Japan? Are you the ones who made the Youtube clip on getting a Korean boyfriend? I found that absolutely hysterical. Anyway, it's too bad you guys aren't in Korea anymore. It's damn near impossible to find Koreans who actually like Norazo or Lee Hyuk; they just say that their music is "weird." With the exception of Big Bang and 2NE1, I don't really listen to Kpop much. :)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Ah, I almost forgot. If you like heavy metal, go to Youtube and check out one of Norazo's tracks from their latest album. The song is "Gaia" and it's friggin' 11 minutes long. However, this is the most rock I've ever seen from them, and Lee Hyuk's vocals are amazing. He said in an interview that although this is more his style, the vocals on this song almost killed him :).

You might like it. It's become one of my favorites of theirs.

It's great to know that he's busy doing so much at the moment. I will keep my eyes peeling for it.

I love that he likes the fact that he's compared to Jesus, what a guy!

Bunny and I have never lived in Korea, but we do both live in Japan now, yes. We're not the ones who made the clip about getting Korean boyfriends either, sorry.

Thanks for the tip off of the "Gaia" song. I will enjoy giving it a listen, all 11 minutes worth ^_^

I was actually hoping to find a blog to add my 2 cents worth about this amazing guy. Thanks gals, found you and have to let my fingers rip.

Lee Hyuk is just too good to be true for the Korean music scene.A Rocker hasn't come this way for a very long time and the time is ripe. And is he world-class, pedigree! I'll give a howl here.

This man's pipes are just incredible, beyond amazing. He plays his voice like a well- honed instrument, hitting all the highest notes at will and making incredible lovely sounds with piercing clarity and resonance.
He has wonderful diction and style that is instinctive for a singer of the highest caliber.
Go check him out if you think I am exaggerating.
So far I have only heard some of his songs, cover versions and some of his work with his funny partner. Wish I understand what they are singing about but I find even the funny stuff good. Such fun and energy. Even beginning to like his partner and Norazo Hahaha.

Love to know more of Lee Hyuk and can't wait to hear and watch him sing. Can't keep watching his performances - explosive and addictive. Wow on looks too :)

Wow! Hello ^_^
So happy to meet yet another Lee Hyuk fan!!! Him (and his howling) really are world class pedigree, I agree!

I'm totally into the jokey fun songs too - actually they are my favourite ones! He has so much character that he really delivers them well as an overall aural-visual performance! The well honed (and toned!!!) instrument that man is.

Hopefully Norazo are due a new song soon. I guess in the meantime, knowing that he is coaching the Chaos boys and showing them how to ---really-- sing, being the wonderful hyung that he is, is enough to keep me smiling :)
